When I first came to Hollywood, CA, I brought two Ludwig drum sets with me. My 1969 green sparkle set and my 1975 white cortex Ludwig set. Both sets consisted of 14X26 bass drum, 16X18 and 16X16 floor toms, 12X15 rack tom as well as snare drums, hardware and cymbals. In 1982 I decided that it was better to sell one of the kits to pay rent than it would be to live inside the drum cases, so regrettably I sold the 1975 set and thought I'd never see it again. Fast forward 22 years to 2004 when I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the 1975 set back again. The shells were perfectly sound but the finish was a little worse for wear and tear and understandingly so after so many years. I had the set refinished in the traditional "Black Oyster" pearl finish which is largely associated with Ringo Starr as "The Beatles" drum set, but of course in the much larger "John Bonham" associated sizes. I fondly refer to this kit as my 1975 "Ringo Bonham" kit. To say that I am thrilled to have it back would be an understatement! Return to Home |
